Tom Foote School of Drumming and The Piper's Hut

Proprietor Jon Moffett began piping at the age of 10 under the instruction of Mary McCoy of Canal Fulton, Ohio. His primary focus in piping had been band music and playing with the MacGregor pipe band through the 80's. After a break in the 90’s, old friend Charlie Marlett presented the opportunity to play in the newly formed Cyril Scott Pipe Band in Central Ohio, and Jon jumped at the chance.

In 1999 Jon began The Pipers Hut. In 2000 he started Piobaireachd lessons with the late Willie Connell of London Ontario. In 2002, Jon joined the North Coast Pipe band and remained an active member until 2005. Jon then was a member of the Toronto Police Pipe Band for the 2006 season. He started actively focusing on solo light music in 2005 taking instruction from Gale Brown by tape and then regular lessons with John Cairns in 2006. Jon has participated in the Metro Cup, The Sandy Jones, The George Sheriff and the Nicol-Brown Invitational. He was promoted to the Open/Professional level of competitive piping in 2009. Jon was the long-time piping instructor for the College of Wooster and spent several years as a member of the Grade 1 Peel Regional Police Pipe Band and a student of John Cairns.

And so, after another several-year playing hiatus, Jon’s personal bagpiping focus has shifted to include being the new pipe major of Capital City Pipes and Drums in Columbus, Ohio and preparing to re-join Peel Police.
